While fully retaining the humour of Nikolai Gogol’s immortal comedy, the Nemetski Theater uncovers entirely new depths and dimensions within it. The classic’s scathing, timeless satire resonates here with an almost Kafkaesque absurdity. Theatricality intertwines with a piercing sense of despair and existential abandonment in an alien, incomprehensible world operating by its own unknown laws, whilst social lampoon merges with dramatic and philosophical reflections of striking depth.
