The anti-ballet "The Bald Soprano" is based on Eugène Ionesco's play of the same name (Theater of the Absurd, Anti-Piece).
The Smiths are spending another evening at home, as usual, oblivious to each other. They are visited by the Martins, who have lived a long family life together but have completely forgotten about it. All the participants in the scene, while seemingly communicating, are completely inaudible to each other.
The maids, Mary, seat the Smiths and Martins, who have become quiet after their "heated" conversation, and turn on the television to calm them down. Afterward, the main characters fall asleep and dream in which they are the way they would like to be. Upon awakening, the Martins remember they are husband and wife and decide to remarry. A solemn wedding ceremony takes place. The Smiths and the Martins perform a passionate tango, each feeling desperately alone in the turbulent sea of life.
At the end of the play, the couples switch roles and begin the story anew. This series of recurring events, with new couples replacing the old, tells the story of the continuation of Life in its meaninglessness.
